Why Gratitude? My parents were of a brave generation that rejected government cash offers to remove old Barossa vineyards in the 1980’s. Their determination to preserve their vines driven by an unwavering belief in their potential to produce exceptional wine has become their legacy. Not only of vineyards, but also admirable character and faith. This wine symbolises my gratitude for their resilience. The very best Shiraz of vintage.

"This special patch of fruit was handpicked off the family vineyard. There was just something that stood out to me each time I went back to sample this specific Hogs Head Barrel…and I knew this would be the next addition to my Single Barrel Selection range. I allowed the wine to mature in new French oak for two years, taking on characteristics of a true Barossa Shiraz. I am excited to finally share this wine with you." Jason Schwarz.

The bottles are packaged in either single or three-bottle gift boxes. Each one is beautifully presented in a kraft gift box, lined with black tissue paper, and includes a hand-signed note card from Jason.

More Information

Its not by chance that the Barossa has some of
the oldest vines in the world, sheer determination and an innate understanding of the best sties to grow grapes in the Barossa (as well as a healthy dose of Lutheran stubbornness) meant that plenty of old vines stayed in the ground during the “Vine Pull” scheme of the 1980s. This is a fantastic tribute to the Schwarz generations who persevered and continued to nurture these old vines through the decades since.

Deep dark ruby to the eye, notes on the nose of
sarsaparilla, blackberry jam, bramble, satsuma plum, sandalwood and elegant lifted baking spice. Savoury and dense on the palate with plush black plum, blackberry notes, Dutch liquorice and aniseed rings, with hints of savoury baking spice. Firm tannins and a long supple finish. One for the cellar.

96 points GOLD - Halliday Wine Companion

A new wine in the Schwarz lineup, a single-barrel selection of the best shiraz of the vintage, and '21 is certainly a cracking year to begin with. Deep macerated satsuma plum and blackberry fruit are cut with hints of baking spice, brandied fruits, licorice, dark chocolate, earth, panforte, espresso and oak spice. Impressive depth, fruit weight and velvety flow across the palate, with thick, powdery tannins in support. It has no lack of power and heft but still retains a sense of energy and freshness. A great inaugural release in the classic Barossa style.

95 Points - Qwine Reviews

The new flagship for Schwarz Wine Co, this Gratitude Shiraz is a nod of respect from Jason Schwarz to his parents for not uprooting their Barossa vineyards during the government vine pull scheme in the 1980s. The very best of Shiraz from the vintage, it spent two years in French oak. There is plenty to unpack here and it showed its best self with plenty of air under its wings. A wine best kept for the long term, that time in oak certainly plays its part. Dark plums, blackberries, Christmas cake fruit and licorice all shoulder their way forward early. Dark chocolate and mocha build some momentum with cedar and sandalwood not far from the action. Silky, rich and with plenty of depth, it is wrapped up into a neat parcel by baking spices that run long and hum on a persistent and considered finish. A long term keeper that won't disappoint.
